Angelica is the agency Administrator and Resource Parent Coordinator and has been with Avant-Garde FFA for over 8 years. After high school, Angelica spent two years in the army before starting her family. Once her daughter and son were both into elementary school, a friend encouraged Angelica to go back to school herself.
A short time later, Angelica found herself sitting in a math class filled with other students. She says the only reason she didn’t walk out on that class was because she was sitting in the front and was too embarrassed to get up and walk out in front of all those people. And so she stayed, eventually finishing school with a Master of Science in Counseling and Guidance from Cal State University, San Bernardino.
She spent some time working as a substitute teacher before seeing the job listing for a social worker at Avant-Garde. Soon she was hired and working directly with foster families. She now serves as the Resource Parent Coordinator, helping to assure placements are right for everyone.
While there are many heart-wrenching aspects to foster care, Angelica says the most rewarding part of her job is when a child is reunified with their biological family or adopted into a forever family.
Besides her two grown children and two granddaughters, her passions are painting and baking. Her coworkers are often the grateful recipients of her baked creations.
