Christy came to Avant-Garde last summer when her friend, a staff member at the time, referred her to the agency. Christy graduated from California State University San Bernardino with a Masters Degree in Counseling and Guidance. She was awarded honors by the Golden Key International Honor Society.
Her original plan was to become an academic counselor, but those jobs became non-existent and social work was a great fit. Christy loves the flexibility the job gives her to arrange her own schedule around the unique needs of the people she serves. She also appreciates the friendships she’s cultivated over the years with like-minded people in social work.
The greatest reward for Christy is to see a foster youth accomplish their goals, like going to college. She loves to see them breaking the pattern and creating a better life than their parents. Her happiness lies in making a difference in kids’ lives.
Christy loves to travel and even spent a year as a teacher’s assistant in Spain. She enjoys art and anything creative, and although she doesn’t consider herself a great artist, she enjoys painting. Her newest project is a fixer-upper house she and her husband have undertaken.
